Backstories

Backstory: Evan

It wasn't long after his birth that Evan had lost his mother. He doesn't remember what took her, nor does he want to, trying to remember or relive that day was more pain than it's worth.

With her gone, it was only him, his father and his two brothers left. Living in the wilderness of a deep forest proved to be challenging for all four of them, his father having to hunt for prey while also not being away for too long so he could look after his cubs.

He had taught them everything he knew, survival, hunting, fighting, even teamwork, cooperation and care for each other. For Evan, his brothers may as well have been nothing but playing, training and hunting partners, but his father, despite, or maybe rather because of, all the hardships they had to go through, tied them all together into what Evan would call his family.

One fateful day however, Evan had just returned from his hunting session, he was shocked to find the little camp his father and brothers had built up over time having been ransacked, raided even. He saw blood, it covered next to everything and had collected in small puddles occasionally. He dropped his prey and immediately began searching the camp for the rest of his family.

In his worry and panic, he hadn't even paid mind to the half or so dozen Lycanroc corpses he walked past. He found their food storage empty, their nests destroyed and every plant was trampled into the ground. What he couldn't find was any trace of his father or his brothers.

He desperately called out to them, tears forming at his eyes as he searched their entire camp again, every crevice, every corner and every hiding spot he and his brothers had found or built over the years.

As dusk fell, the twilight creeping through the sky, he had lost all hope of finding even the smallest trace of his family. No scent, no prints remained, just destruction.

He abandoned the camp.

There was nothing left for him there.

In his sorrow, he walked, and he never stopped. Not to rest, not to sleep. He simply could not stay anywhere. Days broke, nights fell, he walked for what felt to him like an eternity. He fell hungry, thirsty, only ever drinking from the occasional puddle, eating the rare berry, resting only when he could no longer continue.

He was sure he'd meet his end here, in the depths of the forest. Death wasn't something he was afraid of anymore, in fact, in his pain and sorrow he would happily accept Death's warm embrace.

He found a clearing, no, a grove even. Flowers he had never seen before blooming everywhere, the sun breaking through the leaves. He was tired, roughed up and in pain, barely able to keep himself on his own four legs. Here, he decided, he wanted to lie down to rest, to have one final moment of peace.

He was about to close his eyes for one final time, as his ears perked up. Hearing the unmistakable sound of rustling grass, he mustered up what little attention he could towards it. To his surprise, what he saw was not a Pokémon. It was a human.

His father had told him stories of these mystic creatures. Stories unfathomable, unbelievable to a wild Pokémon like himself and his brothers. Looking at the human, he wasn't scared, he couldn't put up a fight, he ignored her, until she spotted him, running towards him, sounding worried or distressed. He couldn't understand what she was saying.

That was the last thing he remembered before falling unconcious. Waking up, he found himselfs with the human he had seen, but he was no longer in the forest. It was warm, not hot, just comfortable. He looked around, looked out of a window to see a small town, couldn't be more than four or five buildings. He didn't know where he was, or why he was brought here, but he felt safe.

He was on her lap, her hand gently gliding over his back and through his fur. It was oddly calming, it just felt right. She fed him, gave him water, she had even prepared a nest for him, or bed, as the humans call it. When he felt better she would take him outside, only for a little at first and not very far. But he quickly regained his strength and confidence, and soon she'd let him explore all around the town, always having her accompany and watch over him.

A strange bond had grown between Evan and the girl. Her gentle voice and her loving care reminded him a lot of his own mother's. He had lost everything, was ready to give up, but fate came and gave him a second chance, a chance to live a new life.

He vowed to protect this human with his own life. It's what his father would do, he was sure of that.

He'd make him proud.
